yes, i realize its a sweltering 98 degrees outside, but is still exciting that our new fall merchandise is starting to arrive. our sale merchandise is almost gone and the racks are being refilled with 'lightweight' fall merchandise including michael stars tees, dresses and cardi's. lots of black and grey - the main fall palette - black is the new black? again? and pretty new nanette lepore dresses, skirts and sweater coats in black, brown, & grey. btw, some of the punch colors for fall are eggplant and merlot, steel blue and navy, and any shade of green from bottle to teal to olive to chartreuse! these look great back to that black/grey saturated palette for a little spice.

Happy Earth Day

so, forgive me for not talking product today, but i've been thinking about earth day a lot lately. it seems just in the past year it has become so obvious to me that each of us must make choices to help the earth, each other, and future generations salvage what's left of the amazing natural resources in our country and on our planet.
we are so lucky, and i think we sometimes get complacent about it. i heard just this week that polar bears are becoming threatened due to the lack of available habitat, just another hazard of the melting of our glaciers. i cannot imagine our planet without an amazing creature like this. these are the animals of folklore and fairytales. there is nothing else on our planet quite like this animal!
anyway, it prompted me to want to tell our friends and clients what we are doing to help make a difference. not an easy thing in an industry like ours!

you know we get a lot of 'skip the bag' these days, and we're great with that. but just to let you know -
all of our bags, boxes and tissue are recycled and recyclable! this has been our choice from the beginning 8 years ago. our ribbons are 'green' made of cotton and water-soluble adhesive, on looms from the 1920's, and completely biodegradable. and we've been told our 'cub' bags make great lunch bags!
we have finally managed with the help of the crescent building management, to recycle everything we can. we now recycle almost all the boxes we receive, by either reuse, or bulk cardboard recycling. we recycle all of the magazines we receive, also our plastic water bottles (but purchased a fridge with an in door water server to cut down on those!). we now shred much of our junk mail and old papers and use for shipping packaging. speaking of shipping packaging, we reuse every bit possible, the packing peanuts, bubble wrap and anything else. (the peanuts from our candle vendors are the best smelling around!).
we also installed sustainable and eco-friendly cork flooring at the new shop, and left the concrete floor in our stock room. we've also changed all of our incandescent lighting to energy smart compact fluorescent bulbs, too.

Sooooo..... the city and apparently the 'concrete gods' say we must
hold out one more day. we wanted to open today, october 11th, but we
do not have 'egress' in the front and back of the store, so we will
officially be open friday october 12th. there should be
complimentary valet out front and plenty of self park in the garage.
you might still have to enter from the back door, we're not sure.
the good news is , our sign is up! and its gorgeous!

ok, i'm sorry, but how cute is that. just the lusso crew (plus
bill!) hanging on a sunday, painting our usual 'lusso' wall at the new
space. don't worry, miss is there, she's behind the camera! so, we
wanted to prove to you all that we are working this week, not off in
mexico on the beach or something (we wish)! we're in, and actually,
we're working like dogs! we know you miss us, because we've been
getting lots of desperate calls and a few drop ins. hello, we don't
even know where a pen is! but we've been able to accommodate a few
mid-move requests, and it has made us smile, that people can't live 2
weeks without us. anyway, we are rockin' and rollin' along, and
we've gotten SO MUCH beautiful new merchandise, and our new space is
just looking gorgeous and we can't wait for everyone to see it! so
keep your fingers crossed that our sidewalk gets poured this week and
we'll be open on october 11th! can't wait.

so yesterday (saturday, september 22, 2007) was the last day of
business at 'old lusso' (12a n meramec).
after 5 we sat down and had a lovely glass of wine, a surprise
delivery by the wine merchant (thanks kasey!), and got a little weepy...
we laughed and cried, talked about all the friends we've gained, how
wonderful the last seven years (yes 7!) have been and how we're all
so glad to have been a part of this journey. all the fabulous
parties, all the art fair craziness, a great run in a fabulous place.
thank you, everyone, for feeling at home here, and making this not
just a great place to shop, but a nice place to hang out too.

We're Moving!

ok, so its a GORGEOUS day in the lou. perfectly blue skys, cool breeze, the scent of autumn... YEAH! i'm soooooo ready for fall!

i love sweater and jeans weather! we've been getting great sweaters from laurie b. and skif, lots of charcoal and black (THE colors of fall!) and some cute add down, a coat and a vest, expecting more from italy any day. more beautiful grey and black from nanette lepore, too. plus, you know we get loads of jewelry in for art fair. maggie nola, melissa joy manning, anne sportun, marcia moran, double happiness...

anyway.... big news if you haven't figured it out, or didn't see it in the windows at the shop during art fair this weekend - its true! WE'RE MOVING!

our beautiful new digs are being completed as we speak. don't stress - its only a few blocks, and we're staying in clayton! its the awesome new crescent building, just across the fountain from the ritz, luciano's and the plaza building. we'll let you in on more of the businesses joining us at the crescent later.

for now here's the details you need to know:

we'll be open on meramec until aproximately saturday sept 22nd.

we'll probably be closed both places for about 2 weeks to facilitate the move.

we're planning (keep those fingers crossed) to be open at the new shop monday oct 8th.

don't worry, no big changes in merchandise, just lots more of all our favorites, and a few new fabulous designers, too.

hot enough for you???? stupid question. well, to get your mind off
your constant sweat beads i am here to let you know about all the
cool (pun intended) stuff we have just received. everyone's favorite
off- colored greeting cards O+D. if you are in need of more than a
card to show how much you care, then our delivery of Anne Sportun's
diamonds and semiprecious jewels should do the trick.(i choose not to
use the obvious "ice" pun) in case those little one's in your home
have played with their very last whatever, we have a large amount of
stuffed creatures occupying our daybed who need a new home.
i'm sure the thought of a very cute, very long-sleeved Michael Stars

its absolutely gorgeous outside, this is the summer in st louis i
absolutely love! the doors are open, nice breeze, and we're putting
good stuff on sale that you can pop into and wear this weekend!
so here's the story: lots and lots of summer clothes going on sale,
tommorrow, saturday, july 21st! plus home accessories and some
jewelry! it will start at 25% off for 1 week and then will be 50%
off for 2 weeks, then anything left will go for 75% off for the last
week! you know how it is around here, the best stuff goes quick!

hello all,
so, i know pictures were promised in our next blog but our in- house
"photog" is on summer vacation. hope you can forgive me.
we just received the cutest dresses from Johnny Was and cool tees
from Dirty Pretty Dolls. we assume everyone is at that point in the
summer where the thought of putting on the same shorts and tee makes
you cringe, or it could just be me. anyway, if you need a summer
wardrobe boost we are here to help. if your boost is required in the
jewels department well, we have got you covered. Palen whose drippy
chain and semi precious earrings are always a favorite just arrived
( not even out of the box yet) !!!
we here at lusso are hoping everyones summer is going
great ,although it seems to be flying by!!! come on in and say hi to
whom ever is at the shop and not on vacation herself!!!
